Alex Aughtry joined the firm as Of Counsel in 2025. Alex is an experienced commercial litigator with a background representing privately held businesses, principals, shareholders, directors, officers, and trust parties in connection with a variety of complex corporate disputes, including litigation involving shareholder oppression, franchise disputes, corporate governance, contractual and fiduciary breach, fraud, succession and trust disputes, and the like. Alex has also represented numerous institutional and retail investors who have sustained losses as a result of misconduct on the part of broker-dealers, financial advisers, and underwriters, including mismanagement of investments, contractual and fiduciary breach, misrepresentations and omissions, and other violations of state and federal securities laws. In addition to commercial and securities litigation, Alex has experience representing clients in a wide variety of civil litigation matters, including insurance coverage disputes; bad faith claims; property damage claims; maritime personal injury; and professional liability suits.
Alex is licensed to practice in the State of Louisiana, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and all U.S. District Courts in Louisiana. She has experience trying cases in state and federal court, as well as in arbitration proceedings before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and the American Arbitration Association (AAA).
Alex has been an author and contributing editor in numerous publications, including The Louisiana Advocate, LSU’s Journal of Energy Law and Resources, the New Orleans FBA’s Advocate, and the treatise Litigating Business and Commercial Tort Cases. Prior to entering into the practice of law, Alex obtained a master’s degree in social work from Tulane University and worked with Habitat for Humanity, where she contributed to rebuilding efforts and advocated for fair housing in post-Katrina New Orleans.
REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS
- Enjoined transfer of, and thereafter recovered through settlement, $5.1 million converted in international commercial fraud scheme centered on non-existent green housing technologies.
- Enjoined transfer of, and thereafter recovered through settlement with broker-dealer and investment advisory firm, $1.2 million of personal funds fraudulently converted from senior investor.
- Obtained judgment of approximately $2.8 million in favor of cybersecurity startup against venture capital firm and affiliates for breach of contract and conversion.
- Obtained $900,000 settlement in favor of widow in FINRA arbitration against financial adviser and broker dealer arising out of improper beneficiary designation on deceased husband’s annuity of beneficiary on annuity.
- Successfully defended claim against widow for approximately $900,000 in life insurance benefits of deceased former spouse; action dismissed with prejudice on preliminary exceptions.
- Recovered approximately $450,000 in settlement in commercial fraud case for assets misappropriated in course of commercial retail development.
- Obtained $1.4 million award on behalf of franchisee in AAA arbitration upon finding of bad faith breach of contract, abuse of right, and violations of Louisiana Unfair Trade Practices Act on the part of franchisor.
- Settled multi-million dollar dispute between members of closely held family business, involving complex transactions and transfer of various ownership interests in multiple farm properties across three parishes.
